The Summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF) entitled “Transport for a Sustainable Economies” is taking place today in Leipzig, Germany, with the participation of transport ministers from member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, high-level delegations and representatives of several international organizations.

At a meeting of the Council of Transport Ministers held on the sidelines of the summit, Azerbaijan was unanimously elected president of the ITF for 2025–2026 for the first time ever.

Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov, who attended the event, expressed deep gratitude to the representatives of the ITF member countries for the high trust shown to our country. He also informed on the work and priorities to be carried out during Azerbaijan’s presidency in the ITF.

Rahman Hummatov also spoke about Zangezur Corridor, which could have a significant impact on expanding the transit potential of the Middle Corridor and lead to strategic changes in the transport and communications map of the region.

The election of our country as president of a highly prestigious international organization once again demonstrates that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner in the region and the world, especially in the field of transport.

Thus, our country was given the opportunity to directly participate in the management of the organization. This is of particular importance in terms of securing support for the country’s interests and the field activities at international level.

It should be noted that our country's candidacy for the presidency of the International Transport Forum for 2025–2026 was registered by submitting an application to the organization in 2022.

With the election of ITF President for 2025–2026, Azerbaijan will serve as Vice President for 2023–2024 and First Vice President of the organization for 2024–2025.

In doing so, the completion of the process of integrating the requirements of the Quality Charter for International Road Haulage into national legislation by our country was highly appreciated by the organization’s member states.

Within the framework of the summit, Deputy Minister Rahman Hummatov held a bilateral meeting with Secretary General of the International Transport Forum Young Tae Kim. During the meeting, they discussed the work to be done during Azerbaijan’s presidency, as well as the main areas of cooperation.

There were also discussions on partnership prospects in the meetings held with the heads of a number of companies.

It should be noted that the International Transport Forum has 66 members. The Republic of Azerbaijan has been a full member of the ITF since 1998.
